ImPulzus Creative Music Lab, founded in November 2018 under the Hangkeltő Foundation, is a groundbreaking private music school in Budapest. Unlike traditional Hungarian music schools, ImPulzus offers an innovative and community-focused approach to music education. Our design team at Divisart, led by art director Edit Palinkas, played a vital role in shaping the school’s visual identity and operational framework, working closely with the client every step of the way.
Problem: Traditional Hungarian music schools have rigid curriculums, obligatory exams, and solfege lessons, often discouraging students looking for a more flexible and enjoyable learning experience.
Goal: To create a private music school offering high-quality music education without the constraints of traditional models, attracting a diverse student base and fostering a strong sense of community.
Brief: Develop a unique visual identity for ImPulzus Creative Music Lab, including logo design, communication materials, and merchandise, while establishing a solid operational framework to support the school’s innovative educational model.
Our take on the brief: We aimed to create a vibrant, flexible, and easily recognizable visual identity that aligns with the school’s philosophy of inclusivity and community-focused learning. We also focused on building a comprehensive business plan, administrative systems, and effective marketing strategies to ensure the school’s success.
Our step-by-step journey:
Step 1
Ideation and research
In November 2017, the concept of ImPulzus was born. Our first step was extensive market research to understand the needs of our future students. Identifying key personas helped us shape a music school that caters to diverse learners. We brainstormed and sketched initial concepts, laying the foundation for our innovative approach.
Step 2
Strategic planning
With a clear vision in mind, we developed a comprehensive business plan. This included financial planning, communication strategies, and a roadmap for sustainable growth. Our strategic plan was crucial in ensuring that every aspect of ImPulzus was aligned with our mission of inclusivity and community-focused learning.
Step 3
Design development
The design phase was a creative journey. We crafted a unique visual identity for ImPulzus, creating a family of logos for each instrument lesson. Our communication materials and merchandise, such as t-shirts, booklets, pillows, and bags, were designed to enhance the student experience. Each design element was carefully considered to reflect our innovative spirit.
Step 4
Implementation and growth
Launching our first singing lessons and vocal training courses was an exciting milestone. Building our student base took time, but through strategic marketing and leveraging community connections, we steadily grew. Just before the pandemic, we expanded to offer instrumental courses, and today, we teach 23 different courses.
Step 5
Operational and structural development
We implemented efficient systems for student enrollment, lesson scheduling, and record-keeping. Our robust administrative framework ensured smooth operations and a positive experience for students and parents alike.
Step 6
Event planning and community engagement
We organized concerts, summer camps, workshops and also a music composer’s competition to enrich the student experience. These events, along with our strategic marketing efforts, helped us build a vibrant and engaged community.
Our journey with ImPulzus Creative Music Lab has been one of creativity, collaboration, and innovation. From the initial concept to the fully realized music school, we poured our hearts into every step of the process. The unique visual identity, strategic planning, and operational frameworks we developed together have laid a strong foundation for ImPulzus to continue thriving.
Though our formal collaboration has come to an end, the memories and achievements we share with ImPulzus will always hold a special place in our hearts. We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve accomplished and the positive impact we’ve had on the music education community in Budapest.

Working on this project has been a rewarding and enriching experience, and we cherish the creative journey we embarked on together.
